When the studio designed the Design With the 90% exhibition for the Gates Foundation Discovery Center, we specified sustainable materials wherever possible for the display structures, including kraft eco-board and repurposed cardboard sonitubes. For a series of large hanging banners, we printed the black and white images onto Tyvek, a durable, non-tear construction material. When the exhibition came down, we retrieved the banners and reached out to the RAI (Refugee Artisan Initiative) for a craft collaboration. Seattle-based RAI partners with refugee and immigrant women for artisan skills training and small batch manufacturing. The banners were cut down into pieces and sewn into a series of large and small hard-wearing carrier bags.
