The Discovery Center explains how and why the largest foundation in the world was founded, and describes its ongoing work around the globe. The 11,000 square foot space in the heart of Seattle features over 1,000 graphics, almost all of which were printed directly onto locally sourced timber. Although Gates is associated with Microsoft, this space was designed to feel human and personal, rather than high tech.

The story starts with the history of the Foundation and what inspired the Gates family to throw their support behind so many organizations around the globe. But as visitors move through the experience, the perspective changes to show that you do not need to be a billionaire to make a positive impact in your own community. The center is free and open to the public, and is designed to embody the slogan: Arrive curious, leave inspired.
