Creative Director: Nicole Fischetti

The Center for Innovative Learning and Engagement is a 51,325 square-foot facility, designed by Mithun. It serves as an integrated home for Business, Humanities, and Social Sciences pathways on the Tacoma Community College campus. Every level of the three-story building includes a mix of classrooms, faculty offices, and collaborative study and gathering spaces to support the development of essential skills and lifelong learning.
Level by level, the interior features bring nature inside with designs inspired by nearby local forests, flowering meadows, and stunning views of Mount Rainier. Throughout the building we created abstract representations of these views and environments to create inspiring spaces for the students and staff.
To complement the major focus on sustainability in the architecture and landscape design, we chose a material manufactured locally in Tacoma that is made from 100% recycled products for the majority of the signage. There is also a feature wall interpreting the various sustainable features and benefits of the facility.
