Why a meadow? In the winter, those passing by this small patch of land in Central Seattle may not realize that the ground will come to life in the spring, overflowing with a colorful variety of native plant species. To explain the benefits of keeping some urban spaces green, and the ecological importance of meadows in particular, we created interpretation that tells the story of how meadows help keep our air and water clean, while creating a home for local wildlife. Dimensional letters growing among the plants spell out the question visitors may be asking (Why a meadow?), inviting them to read further for an answer.
