This tenant improvement project totaling 376,000 sq ft reimagines twin office buildings in San Jose’s historic Alviso district. We were tasked with inspiring employees at work as well as encouraging them to explore the surrounding area. Digging deep into local research, we created original photography, illustration and graphics to transform the building into a narrative journey through Northern California’s ecosystems. From the tidal marshlands of Alviso to the Portola Redwoods to the Diablo Range, each installation and wayfinding element tells a story of place.

Alviso is home to America’s first urban National Wildlife Refuge, and our wayfinding system moves through rich local ecological zones:
Floor 1: Submerged in the underwater world. We featured underwater footage from the bay and from points around the globe.
Floor 2: Exploring rich salt marshes and wetlands, featuring our original photography taken at the nearby wildlife refuge, nature preserve, and various parks.
Floor 3: Ascending to mountain peaks, we created original sunprints and collages to bring the visitors into the forest canopy.

Each level features a distinct color palette and environmental graphics derived from its corresponding habitat. The system helps to orient visitors while fostering a deeper connection to the region’s biodiversity. Visit the second building, honoring Alviso’s rich cultural and industrial heritage, here.
