Concept for an installation to educate college students on how they can become smarter with their finances. The Want Store takes over a retail environment to provide information rather than goods. Displays include a product scanner to show how much the average college student spends on items such as coffee during a four-year period – then tells them what they could spend it on instead, like paying several months of rent.
Developed in Kristine Matthews’ Environmental Design course at the University of Washington. Response to the project ‘Make Change’, in which student teams design installations to create a change they would like to see in the world.
Feature in Print Magazine, Fall 2009 and on Core77.com, designboom.com, and CultureNow.com.
