‘Innovations’ installation wrapping up at UW School of Business

The first of two new permanent installations for the UW Foster School of Business is nearing completion. ‘Innovations’ features almost 100 ground-breaking inventions that have changed our lives: everything from WD-40 to the Internet. Text is sand-blasted into the tiled breezeway that now links the new Balmer Hall to PACCAR Hall. Check it out on the UW campus soon! This project is a collaboration with Karen Cheng.

Thanks to so many friends and colleagues for packing in to our Open House party, it was great to see everyone! The gathering was long overdue and reminds us how important it is to take stock and celebrate achievements along the way. Even the weather cooperated and gave us a glimpse of spring.

Fabrication underway for new Business School installations

After the success of their first two PACCAR Hall installations for the UW Foster School of Business, Kristine Matthews and fellow UW faculty member Karen Cheng were pleased to be invited back for more. We are now working out the fabrication details of two new installations for Balmer Hall, under construction next to PACCAR. Shown are testing of tile sandblast and CNC cutting into the wood slat walls of the new building. Because you just can’t have enough type.

Studio Matthews awarded Center House renovation project, working with Graham Baba Architects

We are very excited to be developing new environmental graphics and wayfinding for Seattle Center’s long-overlooked Center House (also known as “the food court”). We are working closely with Graham Baba Architects in an effort to strip the building back to its authentic armory roots. If ever a public building needed some TLC, it’s this one. Read about the project in the latest Seattle Met magazine.

‘Change’ elevator project wins prestigious SEGD Award

Our ‘Change’ permanent installation at the UW Foster School of Business has won a prestigious Merit Award by the Society for Environmental Graphic Designers.

Business School installations close to launch

After two years of development, two permanent design installations in the brand new UW Foster School of Business are close to completion. Along with co-designer Karen Cheng, we’ve been on hand to oversee installation and hold our breath as it all comes together. Watch this space for pics of the finished works, coming very soon.
